About

About Baby Name Picker

Baby Name Picker is a free way to choose a first name, on your own or with a partner. It shows one name at a time; you keep it or pass. The names you keep become a list, and the list can be sent to your partner as a link. They go through the same deck, and the match page shows the names you both chose. Two people, one deck, no account.

Where the data comes from

Every rank, birth count and chart on this site comes from the public baby-name files of the U.S. Social Security Administration, which list names given to at least five children in a year, from 1880 to 2025. We recompute ranks and trends from those files when each new year is published, and we do not estimate or forecast. How we handle the files is described on The data.

What we don't do

There are no accounts, and we never ask who you are. Your picks stay in your browser. When you share a list, the names travel after the # in the link, so they never reach our server; the link works for as long as you keep it.
