What we collect
No account, no sign-up, and nothing we ask you to tell us. Our server keeps ordinary web logs for each request — the page, the time, the browser's user agent and an IP address — which we use to see that the site is working and to find pages that are broken. Logs are kept for 30 days and then deleted.
What stays in your browser
The names you keep, the names you pass and your filters are stored in your own browser, on your own device. They are never sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data for this site removes them, and nothing of yours is left behind on our side.
Share links
A share link carries your names after the #. Browsers never send that
part of a URL to a server, so the names in a link do not reach us, do not appear in
our logs, and are not passed on to anyone else by your browser. Anyone you give the
link to can read the names in it, and the link does not expire — treat it like a
photo you have sent.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and to see which pages and which filters people use. It records the address of the page, the time, the country your IP address resolves to, your browser and device type, and a handful of events: a name kept or passed, a filter changed, a deck finished, a link copied, a match page opened.
No name you keep ever reaches Google. The events carry counts and
the label of the filter you are using — "Girl · Rising" — and never a name from your
list. The page address we send has everything after the # removed, so
opening a share link does not pass the names inside it to anyone.
In the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics storage is denied by
default: no analytics cookie is set, nothing is stored on your device, and visits are
counted without recognising a returning browser. We do not ask you for consent,
because we do not rely on it. Everywhere else — including the United States —
analytics storage is on, and Google sets two cookies, _ga and
_ga_ followed by the property's ID, which expire after two years and
hold a random identifier for the browser, not for you.
Advertising signals are switched off everywhere, for everyone, because no advertising runs on the site. You can switch analytics off for every site you visit with Google's opt-out add-on.
Advertising
There is no advertising on the site today and no advertising code in its pages. When ads are added, this section will name the network, what it stores on your device, whether anything is personalised, and how to opt out.
Your choices
Because we hold nothing that identifies you, there is no account to close and no profile to export. You can clear what the site has stored in your browser at any time. If you are in a place that gives you rights over personal data — the UK and the EEA among them — and you believe we hold something of yours, write to us and we will look and tell you what we find.
Children
The site is for adults choosing a name. We do not knowingly collect anything from children, and there is nothing here for a child to sign up to.
